Maths Mastery

MUDICT leads the work on maths mastery. Mrs Tunnicliff is the ambassador for maths mastery across school and has been sharing the best practice found whilst studying for a Post Graduate Certificate leading to an MA.

Mastering maths means acquiring a deep, long-term, secure and adaptable understanding of the subject. At any one point in a pupil’s journey through school, achieving mastery is taken to mean acquiring a solid enough understanding of the maths that’s been taught to enable him/her move on to more advanced material.

Mrs Tunnicliff is an active member of the Norfolk and Suffolk Maths Hub visiting schools to observe best practice. She makes sure she shares this information back in school and monitors the work of colleagues to make sure maths mastery is a core part of our maths teaching.
